Digital Euro Association Endorses the Digital Freedom Declaration

The Digital Euro Association (DEA) is proud to announce its support for the Digital Freedom Declaration, a global call to defend privacy, civil liberties, and the freedom to innovate in the digital age.

As we help shape the future of digital money and public digital infrastructure, the DEA recognises that privacy is not a luxury — it is a fundamental right and a pillar of innovation, trust, and open societies. The Declaration highlights the urgent need for legal clarity and a supportive regulatory environment for developers of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), who play a critical role in resisting mass surveillance and digital authoritarianism.

By endorsing this Declaration, the DEA joins a growing movement of technologists, policymakers, and civil society actors who believe that privacy must be embedded into digital systems by design, not treated as an afterthought. This is consistent with our CBDC Manifesto and upcoming Digital Money Position Document. We share the belief that smart, proportionate regulation can empower innovation while protecting society against misuse — without criminalising those who build open-source tools and decentralised protocols.

We invite our members and the broader digital finance community to read more about the Declaration here:🔗
