Digital Euro Association partners with Payment and Financial Technologies Development Center of the National Bank of Kazakhstan

The Digital Euro Association (DEA) is delighted to announce its partnership with the Payment and Financial Technologies Development Center of NBK (PFTDC). The PFTDC has been running the Digital Tenge pilot project since 2021 in order to test a tokenized form of the digital tenge for use in retail settlements in Kazakhstan. 

The DEA’s partnership with PFTDC will include, amongst others, joint educational efforts around digital currencies, publication of joint research, participation and organisation of joint events and exchange of digital currency knowledge and proposals to promote the development of the ecosystems of DEA projects and the Digital Tenge. 

Binur Zhalenov, Chairman of the PFTDC, notes the importance of signing MoU for expanding international cooperation in the field of CBDC. "The DEA is an important partner of the PFTDC in the European Union. Cooperation with the DEA will facilitate the exchange of best practices in the field of CBDC. Effective interaction between the PFTDC and the DEA will be a good support for our collaborative platform - Digital Tenge Hub."

DEA Chairman Dr. Jonas Gross noted that he was thrilled to continue expanding the Digital Euro Association’s global network of influential partners with central banks. “We welcome the innovative approach by the National Bank of Kazakhstan around CBDCs and are thrilled to bring our discussions with the PFTDC to the next level. We look forward to the partnership and to learn from the PFTDC and bring our input to the table.”
